Bio
Jodi Jett (yes, that's her real name and no, she's not related to Joan) grew up in, of all places, Kansas. She's been performing in some form ever since the third grade when she played a broom in the school play. Jodi never imagined back then, covered in brown felt, that she would end up in the Big Apple playing her songs and getting to act and improvise.
Having become a religious fanatic as a teenager and young adult, Jett didn't have the opportunity to be exposed to much rock and roll, especially of the indie type. The only musical or acting performance Jodi participated in during her young life involved leading her church in song or doing sketches as a missionary to help "save" the world. Comparisons to musicians like Liz Phair, Lou Reed and Patti Smith meant little to Jodi when she debuted on the local music circuit as she had never even heard of them.
Yet, Grammy-winning Engineer/Producer Elliot Scheiner (Beck, Steely Dan, Johnny Cash) was blown away when he heard her music, "Unique and intelligent. I haven't heard anything like it in a long time," he exclaimed.
Album co-producer Phil Palazzolo (New Pornographers, Neko Case) describes Jett's music as having "come from that elusive crossroads where naivete and sophistication stop to have a quick drink together. Those contrasts and conflicts make Revelations a layered record that reveals itself slowly with a big payoff."
Shooting the tripped out, teased up video to '80s Girl, throughout the city and over the Brooklyn bridge, was Jodi's first return to acting, and she hit the ground running (ok...more like a saunter). Pretty Girl, Pocket Rocket and Hey Sue! (a song written to Sue Sylvester of Glee!) were filmed next, which inspired her to venture out into sketch comedy, improv and then dramatic acting.
Having studied improvisation at The PIT, The Magnet Theater and Second City (Chicago), Jodi has found a love for making up scenes on the spot. She continues to write, film and perform in various videos, sketches and films and is on a PITtv sketch team.
Jodi now lives in Astoria, Queens, with an awesome dog and a couple cool roommates. She performs improvisation weekly with her team, Ricki's Lake at "The Queen's Secret Improv Club (QSIC)" in LIC.
